Opinion: Alternatives to campus vandalism

In Wenatchee, where I grew up, graffiti is pretty much synonymous with gang activity. In fact, the same could be said for most cities I’ve been in.

To the members of the Western Washington University Community: faculty, staff, and especially the students and friends of Nick,

Our family wanted to express our deep appreciation for the show of love and support Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the memorial service for our son, Nick DeLauder.  On such short notice, to have the campus come together in that way says a lot about what is right at Western and why Nick loved it.  As we all mourn, we would say to you, have great adventures.  Do something meaningful with your lives.  And, occasionally, when something funny or weird occurs, think of Nick and smile and know that he’s smiling there with you.  In this way he lives on.

Thank you all so much,

Cynde, Dan, Elizabeth and Ian DeLauder,
Family of deceased student Nick DeLauder
